Robbie Williams goes High Definition via ASTRA Satellite

Live concert to be broadcast per satellite in High Definition to over 20 venues throughout Europe • Betzdorf, 7 October 2005






On 9th October, Robbie Williams' album-launching show at the Velodrom in Berlin will be broadcast live via the ASTRA Satellite System to 21 cinemas and special venues in 11 European countries, as part of one of the first ever High Definition cinecasts in Europe.

More than 30,000 fans will have the chance to watch one of Europe's most popular artists live in a show which was sold out in Berlin within minutes. The screenings will present the concert on large screens in cinemas and other venues in High Definition and with 5.1 surround sound, giving fans the impression to be as close as possible to the actual live event. SES ASTRA is at the forefront of the development of High Definition TV (HDTV) and has contributed significantly to the successful development of the “HD ready” standard used in the hardware industry today. Europe’s first HDTV channel Euro1080 and its sister company,the Belgium-based facility company Alfacam, are responsible for the recording and satellite transmission of the Robbie Williams concert to the various venues via its HDTV channel HD2 on the ASTRA Satellite System.
