Larger Satellite Reach from 1st January 2008 Onwards

Antwerp (Belgium), 20th December 2007 • From 1st January 2008 onwards, Euro1080’s HDTV channels, HD1 and EXQI, can be received via a new satellite position, i.e. Eutelsat’s EuroBird 9 at 9° East.

To enable these changes, HD1 and EXQI will be discontinued on Astra 1D/3A 23.5° East on 31st December 2007. At the same time, the switch from MPEG2 to the newer compression technology MPEG4 will be completed. Viewers who are still using an old MPEG2 decoder, can trade it in for a new MPEG4 set top box.

EuroBird 9, which is adjacent to Eutelsat’s Hot Bird location at 13° East, offers direct-to-home broadcasting for thematic and HDTV channels. EuroBird 9 delivers 20 fully operational Ku-band transponders supplying coverage across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
