Euro1080 Appoints Net Managers HD1 and EXQI

Eurocam Media Center (Belgium), 28th February 2007 • Euro1080, Europe’s first High Definition Television (HDTV) media company, announces the appointment of David Steegen as Channel Controller Net Manager HD1 and Simon Scales as Channel Controller / Net Manager EXQI Europe. Both are responsible for defining the respective channel profile, station development, content and scheduling of the Euro1080 HDTV channels.

Gabriel Fehervari, CEO of Euro1080, stated: "I am excited to have Simon and David in two pivotal roles at Euro1080 as we are entering a new phase in the history of HDTV broadcasting in Europe. Their background and previous experiences will undoubtedly help to fine-tune the profiles of our HDTV channels. They will play a crucial role in the further development of HD1 and the launch of EXQI across Europe." He added: “David and Simon are not the only ones who have joined Euro1080. Over the last two months the Euro1080 team has been substantially strengthened with the arrival of key people ranging from an operations manager, technicians, to editorial and production staff”.

Simon Scales (38) spent the past twelve years working for BBC Television across a diversity of award winning output including Factual, Entertainment, Drama, Animation and Sport. He initially joined the BBC in Creative Services making promotional trailers. He was then trained as both a location and multi-camera Director and subsequently became a Producer and Executive Producer across multiple projects from documentaries to live prime time Saturday night events. His work has taken him around the world and he has been involved in numerous high profile co-productions (e.g. with David Beckham). Simon is known for taking new approaches to traditional programme making and has originated new formats as well as initiating digital interactive content. Oustide the BBC, Simon also helped launch a media company utilising new satellite technology. Recently whilst still involved with programming Simon was on the BBC Leadership Team as well as working on large scale projects such as The Edinburgh Television Festival (looking at the future of the media for an international audience).

Prior to joining Euro1080, David Steegen (40) was head of Editorial of ‘11’, the football channel of Belgacom TV, and was in charge of the “cross media strategy of all football content. David’s passion for football is illustrated by the fact that he, aside from being responsible for the video content at www.11online.be, he also stood at the cradle of RSCA TV, the TV channel of Anderlecht, one of Belgium’s leading football teams. David Steegen started his career as press officer in the film industry (Columbia TriStar Films), researcher and communication manager of pay-TV Canal+. For a short while, he presented a late night programme on the Belgian commercial TV-station VT4 and being the spokesperson of the Brussels Minister of Finance, Budget, External Relations and IT. While working for Euro1080, David continues to give his weekly view on Belgian football on the French-speaking public channel RTBF.
